Jonathan B. Mills Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award

Cummings & Lockwood is pleased to announce that Jonathan B. Mills, the Firm’s Chairman and Managing Director, is the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Marquis Who’s Who.

Mr. Mills has over 30 years’ experience in the legal profession, and has been acknowledged for his outstanding professional achievements, leadership qualities and commitment to serving the community in which he lives.

The son of Willis N. Mills, Jr, and Elizabeth Case Mills, Mr. Mills was born on April 28, 1959 in Springfield, MA. On August 10, 1985, he married Constance Erin McGillicuddy. Together, the couple raised three children: Jonathan Butler; Constance Whitney; and Andrew Parker.  He and his wife currently reside in New Canaan, Connecticut, and also have a home in North Palm Beach, Florida.

Mr. Mills received his college education at Princeton University. In 1981, he graduated with an A.B. in English Literature. He thereafter attended law school at the University of Connecticut, where he obtained a J.D. in 1985. Following his graduation, Mr. Mills became an Associate of Cummings &Lockwood.

In 1994, Mr. Mills was elected a Principal of Cummings &Lockwood. In 1997, Mr. Mills became the Partner-in-Charge of the Greenwich Office of the Firm, and also a member of Cummings & Lockwood's Management and Compensation Committees. Since 2003, Mr. Mills has served as Firm-wide Chairman and Managing Director of Cummings & Lockwood, resident in the Firm's Stamford Office, and overseas the management of the Firm’s six offices in Connecticut and Florida.  He was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1985, the United States District Court of Connecticut in 1988, and the Supreme Court of the United States in 1991.

He consistently maintains the highest AV-rating in legal skills and ethical standards by his legal peers and the judiciary in the national legal rating agency, Martindale-Hubbell.  Mr. Mills has appeared in various Marquis Who's Who publications, including the 6th and 10th editions of Who's Who in American Law.  He was also recently elected a Life Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation. 

Mr. Mills devotes much of his legal practice to commercial real estate transactions, including commercial leasing, sales, acquisitions, development, joint ventures and financings.  He has also represented companies in connection with various corporate matters, including asset sales and acquisitions, marketing, technology and other licensing agreements, joint ventures, and numerous commercial franchise and contract engagements.  Mr. Mills also serves as a fiduciary and advisor to several families and institutions with respect to substantial trusts and estates matters.

In addition to his professional activities, Mr. Mills has been active in various civic, community and business endeavors, having served on various boards and committees for The March of Dimes, The United Way, The USO of Metropolitan New York, The Norwalk Community College Foundation, The Stamford Symphony Orchestra, the Regional Advisory Board of HSBC Bank, The African Parks Foundation of America, and other organizations.  He is a member of Westchester Country Club, Blind Brook Club and Lost Tree Club.
